You Are Holy

The Hebrew word for holy is “qodesh” and means “apartness, set-apartness, separateness, sacredness” and the Greek word for holy is “hagios” and means “set apart, reverend, sacred, and worthy of veneration.” The Apostle Peter informs us that as believers, we are a holy nation.

“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 (NLT)

Let’s review what we have learned from this verse. The first lesson was that we are chosen by God. The second lesson was that we are “royal priests”. The third lesson is that we are “a holy nation”. As stated before, to be holy is to be separated, sacred. So when Peter calls us a holy nation, he is calling us to be separate from the world. You cannot be holy and still be governed and led by the flesh or the things of this world. The Apostle Paul said, “‘So leave the corruption and compromise; leave it for good,’ says God. ‘Don’t link up with those who will pollute you. I want you all for myself.'” 2 Corinthians 6:17 (MSG)

Remember, you’re not only chosen, but you are a royal priest and you are holy!
