From Bishop Jemmott’s Words of Encouragement article entitled “Forgetting the Past”:
You will never move into your future if you keep looking back to your past! It sounds like a cliché, but to some people leaving the past is very difficult. A ship is designed to sail, but if it remains anchored in port, that ship is not fulfilling its purpose and design. God created you with purpose, but if you stay anchored to your past failures and mistakes, then you are not fulfilling your purpose.
The Apostle Paul wrote the following: “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3:13-14 (NLT)
Notice what Paul said, “Forgetting the past.” To forget is to cease or fail to remember. When you forget, you are unable to recall the hurt or the offense. When you are not able to forget, you will not move forward into your future. You must learn how to forget every mistake, hurt, failure and disappointment from your past. Only then will you be able to move forward into your destiny.
One final note, you need to learn from your past, and forget about the pain and hurt!
Be Blessed,
Bishop Jemmott
