From Bishop Jemmott’s book, Words of Encouragement: Book Three:
“The Sound of Silence” is a song by the American music duo Simon & Garfunkel. The song was written by Paul Simon and recorded by the duo at Columbia Studios in New York City. The recording led to a record deal with Columbia Records. The album was a commercial failure and led to the duo breaking apart, with Paul Simon returning to England and Art Garfunkel to his studies at Columbia University. The first stanza of the song goes like this:
“Hello darkness, my old friend,
I’ve come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains within the sound of silence.”
I don’t know what message Simon and Garfunkel were trying to convey, but biblically speaking darkness is symbolic of wickedness and evil. David assures us that the God we serve will not only be with us in dark times, but He will be a light that will guide us out of the darkness. “O Lord, you are my lamp. The Lord lights up my darkness.” 2 Samuel 22:29 (NLT)
Not only will the Lord be your lamp, but he will light a way out of the darkness!
Be Blessed,
Bishop Jemmott
