We don’t often hear people talk about having humility or humility being rewarded, but that is what the Bible teaches us in Proverbs 22:4. It says, “The result of humility is fear of the Lord, along with wealth, honor, and life.” (HCSB)
The first reward of humility was the reverential fear of the Lord, which is to have deep respect and honor for the Lord. Having this kind of fear is the foundation for wisdom. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10 (NASB) The second reward of humility was wealth. To have wealth is to have a great quantity or store of money, valuable possessions, property, or other riches.
The next reward of humility is honor. The word honor is defined as honesty, fairness, or integrity in one’s beliefs and actions. It also means high respect, as for worth, merit, or rank. To honor someone is to place value on the person. One of the rewards of humility is you will be rewarded with value; you become valuable.
I have had the privilege to sit in a room with two different recipients of the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest military honor, awarded for personal acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty. And the most impressive thing about these men was their humility.
Be Blessed,
