President Abraham Lincoln said this about character: “Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.” What does the shadow of your reputation say about you?

When your name is mentioned in your place of employment, community, school or church, what are people saying about you? When you are not around, what are your closest friends saying about? The book of Proverbs says, “A good name is to be chosen over great wealth.” Proverbs 22:1a (HCSB)

Did you see what the text said? We are encouraged to choose a good name over great wealth. How many of us would do that? Having a good name is more valuable than great wealth; who you are and what people say about you is important. Now, I know that some people will slander your name and tell lies about you, but if your name is clean you will have nothing to worry about, the truth will eventually come out. A good name will last even after you are no longer alive, your good name will be well spoken of. “The remembrance of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.” Proverbs 10:7 (HCSB)
