The Church in the USA is dying. Whether you choose to agree or not, look at the facts. Attendance has fallen in most churches, and believers no longer make it a priority to be in church on Sunday. In this technological society that we live in, staying in to view the service from the comfort of our homes has replaced attending worship.
We no longer gather together to worship as a family or the body of Christ; believers no longer share their faith with unbelievers; people are not being born again, followed by baptism. Some are preaching that baptism is not necessary.
When Jesus first called Philip to be His disciple, Philip did an exciting thing, “The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. When he got there, he ran across Philip and said, ‘Come, follow me.’ (Philip’s hometown was Bethsaida, the same as Andrew and Peter.)” John 1:43-44 (MSG) After Philip became a disciple, the first thing he does is to find his best friend Nathanael and said to him: “Philip went and found Nathanael and told him, ‘We’ve found the One Moses wrote of in the Law, the One preached by the prophets. It’s Jesus, Joseph’s son, the one from Nazareth!’” John 1:45 (MSG)
What is lacking in the church today is one-on-one contact. Believers no longer tell their best friends about Jesus. If we do and are rejected, we get discouraged. We need to be like Philip and say, “Come and see for yourself…” John 1:46 (MSG) Nazareth was a backwater town with no record of any prophet or man of God ever coming out of that city. That is why Nathanael made the statement, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” John 1:46 (NASB)
Just because your church may be small or different, do not be ashamed to invite people or to tell them, “Come and see for yourself.” Allow the Holy Spirit to do the rest. They will not come unless you invite them to come to meet Jesus!
Can any good thing come out of church? Come and see!
