Authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson said this about learning. “The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” I completely agree with Mr. Herbert when he says that the willingness to learn is a choice. The one who learns the most is the one who listens.
The ability to listen leads to the capacity for learning; any time you listen something is learned. My mother used to tell me, “When you don’t listen, you learn the hard way.” I don’t know if my mother got that saying from the Bible, but what she was saying was the same thing Solomon said in the book of Proverbs. Read what he said about listening:
“Simpletons only learn the hard way, but the wise learn by listening.” Proverbs 21:11 (MSG)
Did you see what Solomon called the person who does not listen? He called the person a simpleton, meaning someone who is ignorant, foolish or silly. When you are a simpleton you will learn the hard way, but when you listen you become wise.
The choice is yours!
