As Paul said farewell to the saints at Corinth, he closed his final letter to them with these words of encouragement. “Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.” 2 Corinthians 13:11 (NLT)
Did you notice the four admonitions Paul listed that are needed for the believers to experience the love and peace of God? The first admonition was that the believer should live a joyful life. The second admonition was that they should grow to maturity. The third admonition was that the believer should encourage one another. The fourth and final admonition is that the believer should live in harmony and peace with all men.
I have been in church most of my life, and I have noticed that it’s very difficult for believers to live in harmony and peace. There are always a few who are contentious and fight with everyone. The reason for this lack of harmony is due to their lack of joy and maturity, and as a result they fail to encourage each other. But when believers are joyful, mature and practice encouraging each other, the results will be harmony and peace in the body Christ.
