Have you ever prayed and it seems like God is not listening or that He has distanced himself from you when you needed Him the most? David had this feeling when he wrote Psalm 22. Read what he said in the first two verses: “God, God… my God! Why did you dump me miles from nowhere? Doubled up with pain, I call to God all the day long. No answer. Nothing. I keep at it all night, tossing and turning.” (NLT) Have you ever felt like God does not care, or that he has abandoned you? That’s exactly how David was feeling; he was feeling abandoned and forsaken by God.
But! Thank God for the but! Let me reassure you that while it may seem like God has dumped you, left you in pain and walked away from you, He has not! It only seems that way because your concentration is on the pain and on the feeling of abandonment. God promises never to leave us! “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 (NASB)
Yes! Even when you don’t see or feel Him, He is there walking with you, sometimes He is carrying you. This same David also said, “Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.” Psalm 37:25 (NLT)
