Capturing Your Mind

The mind is the cognitive faculty that enables consciousness, perceptive thinking, judgment and memory. Since your mind is the place that enables your thinking and judgment, then you must be careful who influences or controls your mind. The Apostle Paul said the following: “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.”Colossians 2:8-9 (NLT)

As believers, we need to be very careful who we are allowing to influence and control our minds. As Paul said, beware of “empty philosophies” and demonic influences, but rather allow Christ to be the one who influences your mind. There is a battle taking place in your mind, which you must win. The battle is between the world’s philosophies and the Word of God! If you allow the world’s attitude and philosophies to dominate your mind, then you will think like the world.

But if you allow the Word of God to influence your mind, then you will not think like the world! Your thought pattern will be different; your mind will be renewed daily. As Paul told the Roman believers in chapter 12:2, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (NLT)
