Author, pastor and motivational speaker Joel Osteen described favor as follows: “God can cause opportunity to find you. He has unexpected blessings where you suddenly meet the right person, or suddenly your health improves, or suddenly you’re able to pay off your house. That’s God shifting things in your favor.” God will shift things in your favor when it does not make any sense.
I believe it was Bishop Jakes who said, “Favor is not Fair.” The book of Proverbs tells us that “favor is better than silver and gold.” Proverbs 22:1b (HCSB) What a declaration! I don’t believe the author of this verse is trying to devalue silver and gold; we all know that silver and gold can do much for the kingdom of God. What the author is saying is that favor, the respect from people and grace from God, is better than silver and gold.
The text said that “favor is better,” meaning that having silver and gold is not wrong. Having silver and gold can buy you much, but it can’t buy you favor. On the other hand, having favor can bring you into the presence of people with silver and gold who in turn will pour silver and gold into your life.
Favor is Better!
