I saw a picture of a massive tree trunk; it looked like it had been dead for many years. However, a new tree was growing out from the remains of the dead tree. Such is the life of the believer. Without Christ, we are not physically dead, but spiritually. When we give our hearts to Jesus, the Holy Spirit creates new life in us, we are transformed; we become a new creation. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NASB) The word creature in the Greek is “ktisis“, which comes from “ktizó” meaning creation. Yes! In Christ you are a new creation!
You did not just receive something new-you became a new creation. And as a new creation we no longer live according to the world’s standard, but we walk crucified; the old flesh and its ways are crucified to the cross. “I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20 (NASB)
This new you or creation is not added to your old nature, it replaced your old nature; an exchange takes place. The transformed person is completely new. Yes, you are new; your old ways are gone. Praise the Lord!
