Your miracle is connected to what you are willing to sacrifice! The story of God asking Abraham to sacrifice Isaac is the high point in the life of Abraham. This was a sudden and unexpected request from God; this was the ultimate test of Abraham’s faith: “…Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.” Genesis 22:2 (NASB) Wait, did God just ask Abraham to sacrifice his son? The answer is yes. At this point in Abraham’s life, his faith in God was at such a level that he did not question God. He simply moved on God’s command.

Most believers know, or have heard, the term Jehovah-Jireh, which means “The Lord Will Provide.” They also believe that God will provide. But the “God will provide” promise in this text is conditional. God will not provide when you are not willing to sacrifice. Yes, God will only provide for those who are willing to sacrifice because your miracle is connected to your sacrifice!

Listed below are four keys to God’s supply:

First Key – Obedience. Notice that Abraham did not question or argue with God; he just obeyed and followed God’s instructions. When you follow and obey instructions, you will experience great success because of God’s supply.

Second Key – Move quickly, don’t hesitate! Many of us miss our blessings because we fail to act in the moment.

We know that Abraham did not hesitate in obeying God because the text tells us that he got up early the next morning, and proceeded to the place God instructed him to go. “So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and Isaac, his son; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.” Genesis 22:3 (NASB)

Third Key – You cannot tell your plan to everyone because some people will not be able to handle what God has instructed you to do.

Notice that Abraham did not tell anyone what he was about to do. He did not tell his wife Sarah or the men who accompanied him, and he did not tell Isaac until he and Isaac were alone and the boy asked the question, “Where is the sacrifice?”

Fourth Key – Not everyone can go with you to the place of sacrifice.

“Abraham said to his young men, ‘Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go over there; and we will worship and return to you.’” Genesis 22:5 (NASB)

The reason you cannot tell everyone or take everyone with you is that people tend to try to discourage you or talk you out of your purpose.

Here is the conclusion: God will only provide when you are willing to sacrifice. Notice that as Abraham was willing to put Isaac on the altar of sacrifice and was ready to plunge the knife into his son’s chest, he believed that God would keep His promises.

“Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means ‘the Lord will provide’). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: ‘On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.’” Genesis 22:13-14 (NLT)

Only when you obey God with your sacrifice will you be able to see His provision.
