The church at Corinth had many problems, which the Apostle Paul addressed in two letters called 1 and 2 Corinthians. One of the problems he addressed in 1 Corinthians 15 was what happened to believers who died before the Lord’s return. Paul explained to them that death was the separation of the body from the spirit; the body died but the spirit lived, and those who died in Christ go to be with Him in heaven, and they wait for His return and the resurrection of the body.

He closes his thesis with these words: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NASB)

The first admonition is this: Since I don’t have to worry about dying I can be steadfast in my faith. To be steadfast is to be fixed in direction, to be steadily directed, and to be firm in purpose. As believers, we should be steadfast; nothing should change the direction or course the Lord has set us on. Don’t allow anything to hinder you from your destiny. If you were sidetracked or lost your focus, get up, get back on course. But this time be steadfast!
