Sacrifice

Sacrifice

From Bishop Jemmott’s book Words of Encouragement: Book One

“A sacrifice is a loss or something you give up, usually for the sake of a better cause. While the word sacrifice is no longer used only in a religious context, the word comes from the Latin words ‘sacra’ and ‘facere,’ meaning ‘to perform sacred rites.’” Today many are not willing to lose or give up for the sake of a better cause. I wonder what kind of country we would be living in if Martin Luther King, Jr. was not willing to sacrifice his freedom, dignity, family and life.

Have you ever been asked by God to sacrifice something you prayed many years for? What do you do when He asks you to give Him the very thing that you waited and prayed for? Well, God asked Abraham.

“He said, ‘Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.'”
Genesis 22:2 (NASB)

Abraham waited twenty-five years for Isaac, now God is asking him to give him up as a sacrifice. If God is asking you to sacrifice something precious, you can rest assured that He has greater plans for you; all you need to do is obey. Don’t try to rationalize the command, just obey and watch God provide.

Stop withholding the thing God has asked you to sacrifice!

Be Blessed,

Bishop Jemmott
