      The Bible is the name given to the revelation of God to man contained in sixty-six books or pamphlets, bound together and forming one book and only one, for it has in reality one author and one purpose and plan, and is the development of one scheme of the redemption of man. (Smith’s Bible Dictionary) Another word for the Bible is Scriptures, and this is what Paul said about the Scriptures.

      “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16 (NASB)

      The Bible is more than a thing; it is a voice, a word, the very Word of the living God. Ask the Holy Spirit, who is the author, to teach you how to listen to the small, still voice. At times, our ears are weary with the thousands of noises that continuously assault our ability to hear.

      Lord, help us, teach us, how to be like the boy Samuel when he heard your voice and said, “Speak, your servant is listening.” Lord, help us to hear Your voice when Your Word, the Bible is read to us. Tune our ears to the familiar sound of Your voice, that we may hear the music of Your voice from Your Word, the Bible.
