From Bishop Jemmott’s book Words of Encouragement: Book One

      One of my favorite hymns is “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less” by Edward Mote. The second stanza and refrain are as follows:

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

      As believers, we need to stand on the Word of God, which is the only sure foundation. John tells us, “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us.” John 1:14 (NASB) So when Edward Mote writes “On Christ, the solid Rock,” he is talking about the Word of God, and when you stand on the Word you are standing on Christ; because they are the same.

      What are you standing on? If you stand on the Word, you are standing firm; anything else is sinking sand. As Proverbs 12:3 says, “You can’t find firm footing in a swamp, but life rooted in God stands firm.” (MSG)
