Blessings, Not Curses!

From Bishop Jemmott’s book Words of Encouragement: Book One

      As a believer, how is your relationship with those outside of the kingdom of God? The Bible instructs us to live peaceable lives with believers and non believers. “Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14 (NASB) If we are not living peaceable lives with believers, how can we live peaceable lives with those outside the kingdom of God? Read what the Apostle Paul said about our relationships with those outside of God’s grace. Again, let me warn you, it will shock you.

Bless those who persecute you;
bless and do not curse.”

Romans 12:14

      Blessing people who persecute you goes against our natural inclination. How can I bless people who fight against me (which is the translation of the Greek word for persecute)? This is one of the most difficult things to do! It goes so much against the grain of our human feelings and logic, yet Paul urges us to obey it.

      When we obey Paul’s instructions we are obeying Christ’s original instructions: “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” Luke 6:27-28 (NASB)

      Wow! Bless those who fight against me! Help me Lord!

Be Blessed,

Bishop Jemmott
