Devoted to Prayer

Devoted to Prayer

From Bishop Jemmott’s book Words of Encouragement: Book One

The next principle Apostle Paul gives us from Romans 12:12 is “Devoted to prayer.” The Greek word translated devoted here in verse 12 is different from the one used in verse 10, which means to be tender towards one another. Here, in verse 12, it means to be strong toward something. Paul wants every believer to be strong in prayer. In other words, every believer should have a strong prayer life.

When an athlete wants to become stronger he or she trains with weights; they become stronger by working out every day. Failure to workout will result in not achieving the need to become stronger. Like athletes, believers need to train in the prayer gym to become strong in prayer. Like the athlete who does not train to become stronger, so is the believer who does not train to become strong in prayer. You must practice praying until it becomes a habit.

Prayer needs to be a regular habit in your daily routines; not just private prayer, but corporate prayer with others we are in a relationship with. Paul commands us to “pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Praying without stopping is what we need to do. Pray before you leave your house, pray on your way to work, pray on the job, pray before you leave work, pray on your way home, pray when you get home, pray before you go to bed and pray before you make any decision. I think you get the picture!

      How is your prayer life?

Be Blessed,

Bishop Jemmott
