Double-Minded

Double-Minded

August 11, 2015

The author of the book of Hebrews said the following: “Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.” Hebrews 10:22a (NLT) Every believer needs to draw close to God. In James 4:7-8, the Apostle James gives us requirements which allow every believer to draw closer to God.

The first requirement was submission to God’s will. The second requirement was resisting the devil, or resisting the desire to sin. The third requirement was staying in His presence. The fourth requirement is having clean hands. The fifth requirement is having a pure heart before God. The sixth and final requirement is not having a double mind. “…You double-minded.” (vs. 8)

The term “double-minded” comes from the Greek word “dipsuchos“, meaning a person with two minds or souls. A double-minded person tries to serve God and the world, which is impossible to do. We cannot serve two masters; either love one and hate the other. The Apostle James also informs us that “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” James 1:8 (KJV)

A double-minded believer cannot get close to God. Choose this day who you will serve!

Be Blessed,

Bishop Jemmott
