The Commodores had a hit single song title “Just to be Close to You.” While the lead singer Lionel Richie was singing to a woman, as believers, it should be our desire to get closer to God every second, every minute and every hour of our day. The author of the book of Hebrews, who many believe is Apostle Paul, said the following: “Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.” Hebrews 10:22a (NLT)

Yes; it should be the desire of every believer to “go right into the presence of God.” But note the qualification for entering into His presence is “with sincere hearts.” James 4:7-8 gives us requirements, which allows us to draw closer to God. The first requirement was submission to God’s will. The second requirement was resisting the devil, or resisting the desire to sin. The third requirement: Staying in His Presence! “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (vs. 8)

To draw is to come near. Before the death of Jesus Christ, sin separated man from God. When Christ died and shed His blood on the cross, sin lost its power to separate us from God. The blood of Christ grants us access to God; therefore, we can come to Him with confidence knowing that He will not reject us.

Get close to God, every second, minute and hour of your life!
